DUNE is an amazing novel written by Frank Herbert. I've read quite a few sci-fi and fantasy novels in my time but none have influenced me in the same way as this one. There's something about DUNE that really speaks to me. I'm not sure whether it is the evocative setting or the intricate machinations that the characters all undertake or that it is just a darn good adventure story, when you get right down to it. It should come as no surprise then that role-playing in the DUNE universe has been something of a 'holy grail' for me. I've had a copy of the Last Unicorn Games version of the DUNE RPG and while it has a lot of goodness, it wasn't quite 'there' in terms of inspiring me to run it. At the end of 2009, my One Roll powered D & D game went on hiatus while one of my players took a leave of absence to spawn a second child. I still wanted to run a game and since we'd been hitting the fantasy, I wanted to go to sci-fi. My regular group has played Vampire pretty much for all time. Suffice to say, they are liking the politics. Combine sci-fi and politics and what do you have? DUNE. So I cooked up a little One Roll Engine DUNE game for use with REIGN. This is available as free download, however, I will stress that I do not claim any right to the DUNE License nor to the artwork used within nor the ONE ROLL ENGINE.
